Musk’s New Encyclopedia Aims to “Encourage Domination” of Conservative Voices

Elon Musk has launched Grokipedia, an AI-driven encyclopedia, as part of his broader effort to encourage the domination of conservative and far-right voices in public discourse. This strategy is already evident on his social media site, X (formerly Twitter).
The new encyclopedia, which Musk calls “super important for civilization,” is explicitly designed to align with his right-wing views. It is a direct assault on Wikipedia, which Musk attacks for citing “mainstream media” like the New York Times and NPR.
Grokipedia abandons Wikipedia’s human-edited, transparent model. Instead, it relies on Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, to write and “fact-check” its entries. This has resulted in a platform that parrots conservative talking points.
For instance, the Grokipedia entry on the January 6 insurrection cites the disproven lie of “widespread claims of voting irregularities.” It also downplays the violence of the riot and Donald Trump’s role, framing the event as a “legitimate expression of grievances.”
The platform is also under fire for basic factual errors. Journalists have reported that Grokipedia contains inaccurate information, such as a false claim that pornography worsened the Aids epidemic. The project was suggested by David Sacks, a former Trump administration official.
