The city of Taipei is launching a significant initiative to enhance AI education over the next four years, with a budget of NT$9.2 billion (US$288 million). Mayor Chiang Wan-an unveiled the plan, which aims to modernize educational environments and equip students with skills for an AI-centric world.
A key component of the initiative is the installation of smart screens in every classroom and the enhancement of digital learning platforms through AI-powered assistants. This effort will also see the improvement of AI teaching tools and the establishment of a dedicated AI Education Center at Beitou Shilin Technology Park. This center will be pivotal in coordinating teacher training, developing curricula, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the tech industry.
The educational landscape will also be transformed with the introduction of robotics, drones, and other AI-powered technologies in classrooms. Students will have increased opportunities to engage with edge computing systems that are equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs), providing them with practical, hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology.
Officials emphasize that the initiative goes beyond teaching AI skills; it also prioritizes responsible technology use, digital literacy, and data privacy. The improved learning platform is designed to support independent student learning while alleviating the administrative burden on teachers, such as exam grading.
