Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed approval of a recent European Parliament report that highlights the island’s significant contributions in countering information manipulation and hybrid threats. Released by the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield, the report emphasizes Taiwan’s role as a crucial partner in promoting information integrity, media pluralism, and human rights grounded in democratic values.
The report underscores Taiwan’s proactive stance against China’s increasing gray-zone tactics through civil defense and resilience exercises. It notes that Taiwan’s comprehensive approach to societal defense could serve as a valuable model for the European Union in enhancing its preparedness and resilience strategies.
In addition to recognizing Taiwan’s efforts in information security, the European Parliament report also acknowledges the island’s advancements in high-tech development. It calls for enhanced cooperation and regular exchanges between the EU and East Asian partners, including Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, particularly in safeguarding undersea communication cables and combating misinformation.
In response, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the island’s commitment to bolstering collaboration with the EU and other allies to tackle hybrid threats and information manipulation. The ministry reiterated Taiwan’s dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region by continuing to work closely with international partners.
