Taiwan and Belize have signed two agreements to enhance their bilateral cooperation during a visit by Taiwanese Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung to Belize. The signing took place after Lin’s discussions with Belizean Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca focused on strengthening their partnership.
One of the agreements involves a letter of intent between the University of Belize and Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund to establish the Taiwan-Caribbean Academy. This academy aims to promote technical and vocational education, sustainable tourism, and economic cooperation among Taiwan’s diplomatic partners in the Caribbean region. It will be based at the University of Belize, with Taiwanese universities contributing to the development of the curriculum and planning of faculty.
Additionally, Taiwan and Belize have entered into an agreement on the training of diplomatic staff. This initiative is designed to enhance the professional skills and capabilities of Belize’s foreign service personnel, thereby strengthening diplomatic relations and expertise.
These agreements reflect Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to maintain and deepen its diplomatic ties in the Caribbean, where it has been fostering relationships with several countries. The collaboration in education and diplomacy highlights the mutual benefits and shared interests between the two nations.
