Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense reported on Thursday that it had detected increased military activity by China near its territory. Between 6 a.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday, three Chinese military aircraft, six naval vessels, and one official ship were observed operating around Taiwan. Notably, one of the aircraft from the People’s Liberation Army entered Taiwan’s southwestern air defense identification zone.
In response to the Chinese military presence, Taiwan deployed its own military aircraft, naval vessels, and coastal missile systems to monitor the situation closely. This activity is part of a broader pattern observed throughout the month, with Taiwan detecting Chinese military aircraft 28 times and ships 91 times around the island in October alone.
Taiwan’s government views these activities as part of Beijing’s growing use of gray-zone tactics, which are designed to exert pressure on the island without engaging in open conflict. The increased frequency of such maneuvers underscores the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with Taipei remaining vigilant in its monitoring efforts.
