China has launched a new research center dedicated to enhancing the protection and scientific management of Jiuzhai Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Sichuan Province. This initiative is set to focus on various critical areas, including the prevention of geological hazards and the ecological restoration following earthquakes. Additionally, the center will prioritize conserving the valley’s distinctive travertine landscapes and lake ecosystems, as well as implementing long-term environmental monitoring strategies.
The establishment of this research center underscores China’s commitment to applying scientific research to improve the management of heritage sites. By integrating scientific methods into conservation efforts, the initiative aims to bolster the preservation of Jiuzhai Valley, which spans about 720 square kilometers.
