China’s foreign trade has shown significant growth in the first eight months of the year, with total imports and exports of goods reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year, reflecting a robust expansion in the country’s trade activities.
During this period, exports reached 20.17 trillion yuan, marking a 14.6% rise from the previous year. Meanwhile, imports saw an even larger surge, increasing by 22% to 14.61 trillion yuan. This trend highlights a stronger growth trajectory for imports compared to exports.
The acceleration in trade growth continued into August, with a notable year-on-year increase of 19.8% in total goods imports and exports, totaling 4.65 trillion yuan for the month. Exports rose by 18.6%, while imports climbed by 21.7%, further emphasizing the dynamic pace of trade activities during this period.
For the past four consecutive months, both exports and imports have consistently recorded double-digit year-on-year growth. Notably, for the last six months, the growth rate of imports has outpaced that of exports, indicating a sustained momentum in the demand for foreign goods entering China. This trend underscores the country’s vibrant trade landscape amid global economic challenges.
