Dublin Airport has inaugurated its first direct flight to Shanghai, marking a significant milestone as Ireland establishes a non-stop air link with China’s largest city. The new route, operated by China Eastern Airlines, commenced on Monday and will run three times weekly using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This addition now becomes the longest scheduled non-stop flight available from Dublin Airport.
The airport operator, daa, highlighted the importance of this new connection, which is anticipated to enhance Ireland’s ties with a major global aviation market. The route is expected to stimulate growth in travel, tourism, trade, and educational exchanges between Ireland and China, broadening the scope of opportunities for businesses and individuals alike.
China Eastern Airlines, headquartered in Shanghai and a member of the SkyTeam alliance, offers an extensive network of flights across continents, including Europe, Asia, Oceania, North America, South America, and the Middle East. The introduction of this route is seen as a strategic expansion of Dublin Airport’s long-haul network, providing Irish travelers with direct access to a key Asian hub.

Wang Zhiqing, Chairman of China Eastern Airlines, expressed enthusiasm for the new route, stating that it will establish an efficient air corridor between Ireland and China.
