Rupert Grint Returns as Ron Weasley in ‘Cursed Child’ Adaptation

Rupert Grint is set to don the mantle of Ron Weasley once again, this time for the Broadway stage in the acclaimed production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This marks Grint’s return to the beloved character more than a decade after the Harry Potter film series wrapped up. Grint will be part of the play for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027, reuniting fans with the character he portrayed across all eight films alongside stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

Expressing his excitement for the role, Grint remarked, “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life.” He noted that taking on Ron again, especially as both he and the character are now fathers, offers a unique blend of familiarity and novelty. Grint’s return to the world of Harry Potter follows that of Tom Felton, who recently took up his role as Draco Malfoy on Broadway. Felton is expected to continue his performances through January.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which first premiered in London in 2016, has become a global theatrical phenomenon with productions spanning multiple countries. The play has sold over 14 million tickets worldwide, and its New York production alone has grossed more than $532 million. Grint’s involvement is likely to draw even more attention to this successful production, further solidifying its place in the Harry Potter legacy.

In addition to his iconic role in the Harry Potter series, Grint made his Broadway debut in the comedy It’s Only a Play back in 2014. Since completing the film series, he has expanded his acting portfolio with roles in projects like Knock at the Cabin, Charlie Countryman, and Nightborn. His return to the wizarding world comes at a time when a new Harry Potter television series is in development for HBO, promising to introduce the magical universe to a fresh generation of viewers.
